This workshop reviews preparing for an advising session, including how to find advisee lists and schedule appointments, discussions about academic standing, effective use of Degree Tracks for major and general education advising, and how to guide students through graduation requirements or into a new major.

Advising 101 and 201 Workshops
Advising 101: Key Strategies and Tools for Successful Advising
This is a recorded session to learn about key resources and information to be prepared for advising students. Key topics such as advising tools (WCS, DegreeTracks, Schedule Planner, etc), advising resources, common referrals and how to prepare for an advising appointment are covered.

 

 

Advising 201: Enhancing Your Advising Practices
This a recorded session designed for more experienced advisors (for new advisors, check out our Advising 101 session). We delve into strategies and methods for creating meaningful connections with students and assisting them in overcoming obstacles in achieving their goals. We also feature a guest panel of Faculty Advisor of the Year award winners to share best practices from their advising experience.  

 

Helping Students Navigate Financial Services at WOU

Recorded session of a training sessions offered by Student Success and Advising at WOU in partnership with the Business Office and the Financial Aid office in Spring 2021.

Representatives from the Business Office and Financial Aid office shared key information about their offices that will help advisors support students, where to direct students for specific questions and services, answered common questions related to paying for college and did participant Q&A.
