Accelerated Undergraduate to Master's Pathway

The Accelerated Undergraduate to Master’s Pathway (AUMP) allows current WOU undergraduate students to take up to 16 graduate credits which can apply to their current undergraduate degree and transfer to a participating graduate program.

With thoughtful planning, students could complete a master’s degree within 1 year of completing their bachelor’s degree.

Purpose:

To allow qualified WOU undergraduate students that wish to pursue a graduate program at WOU immediately after completing their undergraduate degree, the opportunity to apply graduate coursework toward the completion of their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Criteria for acceptance and continuation in the AUMP:

  • Fully admitted undergraduates of senior standing (135 credits earned)
  • Cumulative WOU GPA of 3.2 or above
  • Pursuing an undergraduate program identified as participating in an approved AUMP
  • Meets any requirements set by the graduate program that are in excess of the above stated minimum requirements

Provisions:

  • 500- and 600-level courses that may count toward both the undergraduate and graduate programs will be determined through collaboration of designated faculty members in each program.
  • AUMP students may take a maximum of 16 graduate credits while classified as an undergraduate.
    • Minimum grade of B (3.0) or better is required for a course to apply in the graduate level program
    • Courses graded on a Pass/No Credit or Satisfactory/No Credit basis are not eligible for use in AUMP programs.
  • The number of graduate credits earned in the AUMP program that can be applied to a graduate program will be determined by the graduate program and academic regulation G-18.
  • The number of graduate credits earned in the AUMP program that can be applied to an undergraduate program will be determined by the undergraduate program.

Cost:

  • Undergraduates accepted into AUMP will pay at the undergraduate rate for the approved 500/600 level AUMP courses they take while still an undergraduate.
  • Upon full admission as a graduate student, applicable graduate tuition rates apply.
  • Students that receive federal financial aid to take graduate courses must complete their master’s degree prior to being awarded graduate certification.

  • Fully admitted undergraduates of senior standing: applicants should apply 1 term before the start of their senior year. Senior status is recognized as earning 135 credits or more.
  • Cumulative WOU GPA of 3.2 or above
  • Pursuing an undergraduate program identified as participating in an Approved Pathway.
  • Meets any requirements set by the graduate program that are in excess of the above stated minimum requirements

1. AUMP Application Process:

  • Complete the AUMPathway Application with both your undergraduate advisor and the graduate program coordinator to ensure the graduate courses satisfy both the undergraduate and graduate degree requirements.
  • Submit the completed AUMPathway Application to the Graduate Admissions Coordinator. Email to gradadmissions@wou.edu or return directly to the Graduate Programs Office.

The Graduate Office will send you an email confirmation that your AUMPathway Application was received and provide detailed instructions regarding the Graduate Admission application. (Please do not submit the Graduate Application until your Approval Form has been accepted)

Can Post-Bac students apply to AUMP?

No, post-baccalaureate students do not qualify for the AUMP.

Am I eligible to receive undergraduate financial aid for graduate courses taken under the AUMP?

Yes, graduate courses taken under the AUMP are eligible for undergraduate financial aid. All standard conditions regarding financial aid as administered by the Financial Aid Department at WOU must be met. Please contact that office with Financial Aid questions. Students changing their students status (example: undergraduate to graduate) mid-year will need to notify Financial Aid.

Am I eligible to receive graduate financial aid for graduate courses taken under the AUMP?

No. You will be eligible for consideration for graduate financial aid once you have graduated with your bachelor’s degree and start your master’s degree program. You must complete a new FAFSA® form for graduate school.

Will graduate courses taken under the AUMP count toward my WOU undergraduate enrollment status (e.g., full-time, part-time, etc.)?

Yes, up to 16 credits of graduate courses taken under the AUMP will count toward your WOU enrollment status.

Will graduate courses taken under the AUMP appear on my undergraduate and graduate transcripts?

Courses will appear on transcripts based upon the level of the course; undergraduate courses will appear on an undergraduate transcript. Graduate courses will appear on a graduate transcript.

Are graduate courses completed while an undergraduate in the AUMP counted as transfer courses on the masters program of study?

Yes, all courses up to 16 credits completed prior to your term of full admission to the graduate degree are transfer courses and must meet all transfer course policies.

Am I eligible to receive a graduate assistantship while taking graduate courses under the AUMP?

No. You will be eligible for consideration for a graduate assistantship once you have graduated with your WOU bachelor’s degree and start your master’s degree program.

Will I be charged undergraduate or graduate tuition for graduate courses taken under the AUMP?

Students will be charged undergraduate tuition. Once you are fully admitted into your graduate program, you will be charged graduate tuition.

After I am admitted to the AUMP, how do I register for graduate courses?

 

How Degree Programs Can Participate in the AUMPathway

 

Program Submission Process:

  1. Talk to partnering program; both undergraduate and graduate programs must work together to create a pathway. Undergraduate and graduate programs that are interested in setting up a new Accelerated Undergraduate to Master’s Pathway (AUMP) should preview the AUMP proposal form prior to submission. All proposals shall be submitted at least three terms prior to the first term students plan to be admitted.
    • Fall for Summer applicants
    • Winter for Fall applicants
    • Spring for Winter Applicants
    • Summer for Spring Applicants
  2. If the proposal requires curricular changes to either the graduate or undergraduate programs involved the AUMP proposal needs to be submitted simultaneously with proposals for curricular changes. The AUMP can only be available in the same academic year that the corresponding curriculum begins.
  3. Consult with Amber Deets in the Graduate Programs office to finalize proposal before submitting the required PDF online.
  4. Programs that are ready to proceed may then submit their proposal for a new AUMP to the Graduate Programs Office using this online form. Please complete the provided PDF prior to submitting your proposal. This completed PDF is required for submission.   5. The submission will be reviewed by the College Dean, Graduate Dean, & Provost for approval.

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
