Inspire the next generation of readers and writers!
The Language Arts Teacher Education Major is separate from the English Major. Students should have an academic advisor in the College of Education as well as a faculty advisor in the English department. The following requirements and learning objectives were established jointly by faculty in the College of Education, English department, and Communication Studies department.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply linguistic principles, composition theory/practice and methods of literary analysis.
- Relate oral and written communication, literature and linguistics content to secondary-level pedagogical best practices.
- Analyze the rhetorical power and aesthetic potential of language.
Mission
Drawing on work in linguistics, literature, writing and communication studies, prepares students to teach secondary-level language arts.
