R.S. Baker Memorial Scholarship

Each applicant must meet the following elements:

  • Be a prospective or current full-time student at Western Oregon University
  • Be age 24 or older
  • Have an earned grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
  • Have a declared major in the Humanities (Communication Studies, English Studies-any track, German Studies, Humanities, Philosophy, Spanish)

David & Dennis Eddings Scholarship in Literature & Writing

Each applicant must meet the following elements:

  • Be a prospective or current full-time student at Western Oregon University
  • Have an earned grade point average (GPA) in the major of 3.5 or higher
  • Have academic standing of sophomore or higher
  • Have a declared major in Literature, Writing, or Language Arts

Charles and Sylvia ALVA Scholarship in Linguistics Studies

Each applicant must meet the following elements:

  • Upper division student
  • Focused area of study will be English Studies linguistics
    • This includes:
      • English Studies majors with a Linguistics concentration
      • Linguistics minors
      • Students seeking a TEFL certification
      • Humanities majors with a Linguistics focus
      • Language arts education majors (Secondary/middle-high school language arts teaching) 

Preferences: Applicants with a desire to teach English in secondary schools

A. Jane Berry-Eddings Scholarship in Communication Studies

Each applicant must meet the following elements:

  • Be a prospective or current full-time student at Western Oregon University
  • Have an earned grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher
  • Have a declared major in Communication Studies

Leonard W. Rice Memorial Scholarship

Each applicant must meet the following elements:

  • Be a Senior at Western Oregon University
  • Have a declared major in the Humanities (Communication Studies; English Studies- Literature, Linguistics, Writing; German; Humanities; Philosophy; Spanish)
  • FAFSA® and WOU General Scholarship application, only, are required

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
