We are excited to welcome back our students for spring term 2024! Spring is here, bringing with it the blossoming trees and sunshine. Many wonderful events are happening this term and look forward to seeing our alumni and community members join the fun.
A Message from President Peters
As spring term begins and spring arrives, I am excited for what the warmer weather brings, such as more outdoor games and events, cook-outs, and the vibrancy of the beautiful foliage surrounding our campus. Spring also means that commencement is drawing nearer, and I look forward to celebrating this incredible milestone with our graduates who have worked so hard.
I am also reminded of the power a university has in bringing people together. Western is proud to have nearly 50% of our student body as first-generation students with nearly 40% identifying as persons of color. Our diverse student body and community make Western a unique place to study and work. I encourage everyone, especially our alumni, to share their experiences at Western with prospective students and encourage them to visit campus and consider us for their educational journey. We are a community dedicated to student success, and even after graduation, our alumni are always part of the family. Let’s all keep telling the story that is Western!

Western Oregon University to be featured in award-winning Amazon Prime show
Western Oregon University is featured in The College Tour, an award-winning Amazon Prime TV series. The series focuses on different colleges or universities in the United States in each episode and includes stories of multiple college students’ experiences. Filming for Western’s episode took place last September and students were encouraged to audition for the episode. Ten were selected to be featured, each with unique backgrounds and stories. The episode is compiled into one 30-minute video and is also divided into ten segments, one per student. Each student collaborated on their segment’s script. Watch it here.
Western Oregon University joins Oregon public higher education institutions for Advocacy Day
Western Oregon University along with the six other Oregon public higher education institutions, lobbied together at the Oregon State Capitol building during Advocacy Day which took place on February 8 during the 2024 legislative session.
Western Success Story: Teresa Alonso Leon ‘02
Western Oregon University is proud to highlight the accomplishments of former Oregon State Representative and alum Teresa Alonso Leon ‘02. Alonso Leon’s educational journey started when she was young, as she was the oldest of five and had to quickly learn how to delegate responsibilities. As a first-generation student, Western provided the support she needed to develop critical skills to achieve her career goals.
