Western Oregon Winds

The WOU wind ensemble is a large, auditioned ensemble that performs contemporary and standard literature for symphonic band, wind ensemble and wind symphony.

Rehearsal Schedule

Full Rehearsal: Tuesday-Thursday 12:30-1:50

One Hour Sectional: As arranged

Audition Policy

  1. Chromatic scale for your normal playing range
  2. Concert F and Gb major scales two octaves
  3. Approximately five minutes of any piece that shows off your playing

OR

  1. each of the WIBC audition selections for your instrument available at Bandworld
  2. Some simple sight reading or rhythm counting
  1. Two octave chromatic scale
  2. Concert F and Gb major scales two octaves

OR (if you do not play mallets)

  1. Rudimental long roll, open­close­open and orchestral long roll pp – FF – pp
  2. Paradiddles, flam accents, flamacues and ratamacues open­close­open
  3. Approximately five minutes of any piece that shows off your playing

OR

  1. Each of the WIBC audition selections for your instrument available at Bandworld
  2. Some simple sight reading or rhythm counting
  1. Chromatic scale for your normal playing range
  2. G and A major scales three octaves (two for bass) ­ detache, no vibrato
  3. Approximately five minutes of any piece that shows off your playing

OR

  1. All of “Danny Boy” in any key or register, sustained and lyrical, available in many ranges/keys at Bandworld
  2. Some simple sight reading or rhythm counting

An audition may be submitted via audio or video recording (video is preferred). Audio or video files may be posted to YouTube, Dropbox, or other online location. Send link(s) via email to Dr. Ike Nail.

Alternately, recordings may be burned to CD/DVD and mailed to: Dr. Ike Nail, Director; Western Oregon Symphony & Western Oregon Winds; 102 Smith Hall; Western Oregon University; 345 Monmouth Ave; Monmouth OR 97361

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
