Western Oregon Voices

Western Oregon Voices

Western Oregon Voices is an audition-only ensemble which comprises 8-12 voices and a rhythm section. The group performs a wide range of repertoire from the entire spectrum of jazz and contemporary music, including jazz, Latin music, rock, and a cappella. Western Oregon Voices performs throughout each term at various venues with a final concert at the end of each term on campus. The ensemble also tours throughout the year with past performances at the Reno Jazz Festival (Reno, Nevada), Taproot Cafe & Lounge (Salem), Capital Manor, throughout Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

Audition Policy

Western Oregon Voices is a chamber ensemble whose participants are selected from a required audition. Auditions for this ensemble typically take place during New Student Week and the day before classes begin each fall. Auditions are open to all students regardless of major, minor, or class year.

Fall 2023: Voice Dance II (arr. Greg Jasperse), New Day (Arr. Jennifer Barnes), Infant Eyes (Wayne Shorter – combo tune), On May Way from Disney’s Brother Bear (Arr. Jim Clements) Monday’s Bossa (original tune by Gabriel Hoselton), What About Us (Arr. Paul Langford), It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (arr. K. Shaw), The World for Christmas (Anders Edenroth), and Devil May Care (Arr. Kerry Marsh).

Winter 2024: How High the Moon (arr. Jay Althouse), Yardbird Suite (arr. Jennifer Barnes), Poppy Seeds (original composition by Nathan Richardson, ’24, combo tune), Blackbird (arr. Paris Rutherford), Scorpion (arr. saje), House of Gold (arr. Bryan Sharpe), Misty (arr. WOU Voice Combo), and I’m Still Standing (arr. K. Marsh).

Spring 2024: Here Comes the Sun (arr. K. Marsh), Sweet Bird (arr. K. Marsh), Seven Steps to Heaven (M. Davis, V. Feldman – WOU Voices Combo feature), House of Gold (arr. Bryan Sharpe), Scorpion (arr. saje), Devil May Care (arr. K. Marsh), 90 Degrees (original composition by Nathan Richardson, ’24 – WOU combo tune), and I’m Still Standing (arr. K. Marsh).

Fall 2024: Tuxedo Junction (arr. K. Shaw), Where the Streets Have No Name (arr. K. Marsh), Old Devil Moon (arr. P. Langford), O Come O Come Emmanuel (arr. D. Meader), and Sing a Song (arr. P. Langford).

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
