WOU Athletic Bands

WOU Athletic Band                                                                                        WOU Atheletic Bands in the News!

The WOU Athletic Bands are proud to represent Western Oregon Athletics at both select                                          Polk County Itemizer-Observer (July 24th, 2019)
football and basketball games throughout the calendar year. Comprised of both music and non
music majors, this group loves to move and groove with our home fans. So, dust off that
instrument and bring it on down to Smith Hall!! We would love to see you there!

Fall Band Camp

To prepare us for fall football season we will be hosting a full one day band camp the weekend
before school starts. This event will be held in Smith Music Hall Sunday Sept 29th from
9:00am-6:00pm. We strongly advise anyone who wishes to participate to attend the mini camp as
we will be learning most of our music, basic marching techniques and choreography for the first football game at that time.

Auditions

Anyone attending WOU as a student can participate in one or all of the athletic bands on
campus. We also offer a select number of scholarships for members who wish to audition.
Auditions will be held at the conclusion of the Mini camp on September 29th. Those wishing to
audition must attend the camp to be considered. Auditions are only required for scholarships,
general participation does not require auditioning.

Rehearsals

The WOU Athletic Bands only rehearse once a week and require a one hour per week sectional to
review performance material. Since our rehearsal time is limited sectionals and individual
practice outside class is required to maintain our professional and polished appearance at
events.

Instruments/Uniforms

Students are encouraged to bring their own instruments, however, WOU does rent a limited number of instruments and provide all the equipment for those involved with the WOU Drumline.
Uniforms are also provided for all members.

If you are interested in participation with the Western Oregon University Athletic Bands please
feel free to contact the Director: Ben Protheroe
