Submission Guidelines
- Every submission should have a title* and be emailed as an attachment to: northwestpassage@wou.edu
- All WOU students, faculty, and alumni over the age of 18 are invited to submit their work.
- Please leave your name off of your submissions (ex: names in documents or on art pieces), as this will assist us during the voting process. Your name can be included in the name of the image/document, but it will be removed in the version that the Editorial Board can see.
- We accept: short stories, creative essays, poetry, scripts/screenplays, lyrics, photography, art of any medium, spoken-word, music compositions and recordings.
- Submissions must not exceed 8 pieces of work. No more than 5 submissions per contributor will be published per issue, but additional submitted work may be considered for future issues.
- Art must be in digital format; please take high quality photos (300 PPI) of artwork for the best printing result. The Editor in Chief may ask for better pictures if needed. We want your piece to look good in print!
- Due to space constraints, all written work has a word limit of 1,500 words and should be submitted as a pdf or doc.
- Digital music submissions will be included in the digital album during Spring term only, but they can be submitted any time as a wav. file.
- Submissions are accepted all year. However, submissions must meet the deadline to be considered for the current issue.
- The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to edit submissions, but will not publish the edited version without the creator’s permission.
*Pieces will be named Untitled if no title is given
For Accepted Contributors
- Once Editorial Board voting has finished, all applicants will receive an email detailing which submissions are accepted and which were denied. The email will include some questions that should be answered so the Editor In Chief has the information they need for crediting your work.
- Accepted creators must fill out this release form: Northwest Passage Release Form. Please return to the EIC via email or drop off at the Northwest Passage office: Terry House, rm. 110. Failing to submit this release form will end in your piece being removed from the edition, for copyright reasons.
- Submissions may be accepted under a pseudonym or featured as a work by “anonymous” if specified by contributor. If you would like to have a pseudonym or remain anonymous, please let the Editor In Chief know over email after receiving your email about what pieces were accepted.
