Scholarships and Fellowships
General Information
As soon as you decide to study or intern abroad, make an appointment to see a financial aid counselor. Remember to take a copy of the budget for your program to your appointment. Many types of financial aid and scholarships apply to study abroad and international internships, but there may be some exceptions. Visit this site for additional information about financial aid and study abroad.

WOU Scholarships for Study Abroad
Friends of Gentle House Foreign Study Grant: Available to a WOU student in the German Program.
Deadlines:
- Winter term: October 30
- Spring term: February 1
- Summer or Fall terms: April 1
Gudrun Hoobler German Scholarship
A $1,000 scholarship is awarded in May to a student enrolled in German lessons at WOU or studying abroad in Germany in the next academic year.

- CIS abroad Scholarships: Available to students accepted to CIS programs. 70% of all CIS abroad students receive scholarships or grants to study or intern abroad.

- Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship: Students interested in underrepresented fields of study; Pell Grant recipient and first generation college students.
- Boren Awards–National Security Education Program — WOU Deadline 12/15: Students who wish to work in the federal national security arena and the federal government.
- Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund: Undergraduate and graduate students advocating peace, justice and social change.
- Elie Wiesel’s Prize on Ethics: Undergraduate full-time juniors and seniors interested in the education of ethical dimensions; ethics essay required.
- Fund for Education Abroad: DACA students, student athletes, minorities, veterans interested in studying in non-traditional locations.
- Golden Key: Current active GK undergraduate students, graduate students and advisers must attend conference in Arizona and show development gained from conference.
- National Italian American Foundation: Undergraduates, graduates, post-graduates and legal students who have at least one Italian ancestor.
- Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant Competition: Undergraduates who have applied or have been accepted in to study abroad program; must attend institution with active Phi Kappa Phi chapter.
- $2000 “No Essay” College Scholarship: All students who are planning or enrolling within 12 months to a study abroad program.
