Mission Statement

Disability Access Services (DAS) intentionally provides individually tailored, reasonable accommodations for the Western Oregon University (WOU) community and its programs. Acting under the values of DAS, we aim to cultivate lifelong learning, personal growth, and self-advocacy.

Federal Compliance Statement

Disability Access Services is the official University department to review and house disability documentation as designated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

Hours of Operation

Our office in APSC 405 is open Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. We are closed on all Campus Holidays.

Drop-In Hours

DAS offers drop-in hours during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. Although DAS staff are often available outside of drop-in hours, these times guarantee someone will be available to meet with you for quick questions or troubleshooting. Please check out the DAS Drop-in Hours calendar for specific times.

HOSTING ACCESSIBLE EVENTS

If you are hosting a WOU Event and have requested Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, please include the following statement on all advertisements: Captioning and ASL interpreters will be provided.

Poster Statement

The Human Resources Department and Disability Access Services are excited to announce a new “all in one” disability-related accommodations statement and form to be included on all campus communications (posters, emails, promotional materials) for all WOU events and opportunities. This is the only statement and form that you will need regardless of your target audience (students, employees, community members, visitors):

“If you would like to request disability-related accommodation(s) to participate in a WOU activity or event, please complete the online request form at least three (3) business days in advance. If you have questions, contact Disability Access Services (DAS) at 503-838-8250 or das@wou.edu.“

RELEASE OF INFORMATION

DAS records are confidential; below, our Information Regarding Confidentiality and Privacy document includes the DAS Release of Information (ROI). A completed ROI allows DAS to share specified information with a designated entity, person or persons.

Note that records requests can take up to two weeks for processing.

History

In the Fall of 2024, the Office of Disability Services (ODS) became Disability Access Services (DAS). The rebranding includes a new mission statement and departmental logo. We also plan to launch an updated version of our database (known as AIM).
