QPR – Question, Persuade, Refer

Length: 90 minutes

Format: Face-to-Face

Audience: Anyone

QPR is an introductory training for anyone wanting to learn how to help a person at risk of suicide. Learn how to identify the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond.

ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Length: 2 days

Format: Face-to-Face

Cost: Free

Audience: Anyone

ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop that teaches you how to recognize someone who may be at risk for suicide, how to intervene and promote safety and how to identify appropriate supports to help keep the person safe. This course is designed as an in-depth training for suicide prevention.

Mental Health First Aid

Length: 8 hours

Format: Face-to-Face

Cost: Free

Audience: Anyone

This training will give you tools to help people with mental health challenges get the help they need. You will learn about the impact of mental illness in the U.S., warning signs for anxiety, psychosis, depression and addiction and a five-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care.

CALM – Counseling On Access To Lethal Means

Length: 2 hours

Format: Online

Cost: Free

Audience: Educators

CALM teaches you strategies for helping clients at risk of suicide and their families reduce access to lethal means, particularly (but not exclusively) firearms.

These training modules provide an introduction to the national health issue of youth suicide. You’ll learn about warning signs and risk factors and how respond to at-risk individuals.

Western Oregon University’s Land Acknowledgement
Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
